Look What I Found: Natural Vitamin E

Hello dears!

I've recently made the shift from my old Vitamin E supplement brand (Myra-E) to a new one (Solgar), and from the dl-300IU to the d-400 IU variant.

Some notes I got regarding taking Vitamin E supplements:
  • It should be taken preferably with meals since Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin which is absorbed together with lipids/fat in the diet.
  • Follow the recommended daily dose: for Vitamin E 400 - 1 soft gel capsule a day. There is such a thing as "Vitamin E overdose".
  • If you are taking other vitamin supplements, please check that these do not contain Vitamin E so you don't exceed the recommended daily dosage.
  • The Vitamin C and E tandem is a myth. Vitamin E can be absorbed by the body when taken alone. Vitamin C is not required for vitamin E absorption.
  • There are eight forms of vitamin E which are divided into two groups; four are tocopherols and four are tocotrienols. They are identified by prefixes alpha- (α-), beta- (β-), gamma- (γ-), and delta- (δ-). Both Myra-E and Solgar Vitamin E supplements belong to the tocopherol group, though with different prefixes. • It is still best to consult your physician when taking vitamin supplements especially if you are pregnant or have any medical condition.

Below are all taken from Solgar's website (http://www.solgar.com):

This formulation provides natural Vitamin E in a dry (non-oily) form, for those who have difficulty digesting fats or oils. It is offered in a convenient, two-piece, vegetarian capsule.*

The most popular benefit of taking Vitamin E supplements, specifically the α-Tocopherol variant, is its function as an antioxidant. It's supposed to remove the free radical intermediates and prevent the oxidation reaction from continuing, and in layman's terms , help slow the aging process. A caveat though --- there is no clear and definitive study yet to establish vitamin E's ability to act as an antioxidant when taken in the form of supplements. But I guess if we can swear by the noticeable effects of people complimenting us on how great our skin looks and strangers getting surprised to learn our "real" age...then (shrugs shoulders) we just have to stick to the recommended Vitamin E daily dosage and smile our way through aging.

Stay blooming sweeties!
