Two food resolutions are on my 2014 list, and I believe these are two of the most difficult (by my standards).
First, "no more coffee". Can you imagine me without coffee? I mean, like seriously. Nevertheless, I will try my best. I violated this already once in the first week of January. After working on and finishing a presentation until the wee hours of the morning, I needed the pick-me-upper to be "alert" the following day. Well, after that, I'm strictly no-coffee (not even if it's free). So far, so good :)
Second, "I will always eat my breakfast". And this is also a hard one, considering the cold weather lately which makes getting out of bed, to prepare my breakfast, a daunting task. To the early birds who find early breakfasts an easy-peasy routine, congratulations to you!
Now what should I have for breakfast that's quick and easy? I have the option of taking Big Chill's Power Breakfast, the liquid form of a super charger. But that's kind of cold in an already cold early morning. And the Big Chill in Greenbelt does not open until 10 am (Its branch at The Enterprise, the closest to my office, had gone AWOL. I don't know if it was even relocated.)
This brings me to Kenny Rogers' Big Breakfast No. 2. It has its own loyal following, I suppose. I have one officemate who swears that this is delicious. Breakfast No. 2 consists of two pieces of hotcakes, a sausage, bacon strips and the mandatory sunny-side-up egg (served with brewed coffee, I believe). I know that some (based on food reviews) will attest that Kenny Rogers do deliver in terms of yumminess. I will not question that here. To each his/her own (breakfast :). I just thought that maybe I can whip up my own big breakfast version. Minus the hotcakes (which I think will be challenging for the less-alert me in the morning).
Why not? This thought led me to the grocery (The Landmark Supermarket). I got the brown eggs (half a dozen from Organicus; I noticed that the eggs are smaller this time so I hope the chickens are still the happy bunch), sausages (German, chicken and Hungarian --- for variety), and bacon crumbles (from Purefoods). I portioned the frozen goods into six separate containers so that they are ready for frying anytime. It's been four breakfasts since then (I alternate them with my other meat combinations to avoid tiring my palate with the sausage-egg-and-bacon combination). I cook the sausage in the bacon crumbles' own oil. When all is done with the two, the perfect sunny-side-up gets the remainder of the heat. I'm usually done in less than five minutes.

Overall, I'm quite happy and filled. The saltiness of the sausage is offset with the crispy bacon crumbles and my sweet cocoa (no more coffee, remember?). Even without the usual rice, this combo is enough to last me until lunch time.
On another note, this is not my idea of a healthy breakfast and I have other plans in mind. I just wanted to see how much will it take to whip up a replica of Kenny Rogers' big breakfast. The latter will set you back by about P195 (not bad if you want to treat yourself now and then) while my own home-cooked version costs less than P70 per meal (cocoa drink included ofcourse).

Well, that will be all for this version of the big breakfast. I've planned out a different take after I consume my remaining supply. I will stick with no-coffee but will move on to healthy lean meats.
A few hours from now and it will be breakfast time. Happy brekky everyone !
