The Saturday Agenda: Udon Lunch

It was one of those rare days when it actually snowed in London! As I queued outside the British Museum, I took a video (for my personal memoir) of the baby snow flakes floating and falling around me. What an amazing moment!

British Museum
I met Liza for our dose of eye-opener tours at the British Museum. These are free 30-40 minute tours held throughout the day where a guide tells the story of the selected region or country as he/she walks you through the art gallery. We picked Greece and Mexico for our tours.

Ichiryu
Afterwards, we came to the heart of our Saturday Agenda. As always, food!

Ichiryu's specialty is the Hakata Udon which consists of dashi broth and udon noodles handmade from scratch everyday using Japan-sourced ingredients. The founder, Tak Tokumine, hails from Hakata, Fukuoka, Japan.

Verdict: I think the ontama egg made all the difference. Make sure to break it and combine thoroughly with the noodles if you prefer a more savoury experience - a good fusion of umami and 'clean' flavours. A good break from the ramen trend.

GAIL's Artisan Bakery
After lunch, we had the obligatory coffee so Liza won't literally sleep-walk for the rest of the afternoon. LOL!
The usual flat white

Our tummies had barely enough room for dessert, but we didn't want to pass up on great artisan bakery goods and thus, bought some for take-away. I got this lovely piece and had it after my dinner later in the day. Indeed, it was perfect for me --- soft and  not too sweet.

Pistachio + lemon + edible rose petals = 💙

GAIL's Artisan Bakery has several branches and we visited the one at 11-13 Bayley Street, Bloomsbury, London WC1B 3HD. Check out their website at http://gailsbread.co.uk for a primer on what makes 'good bread'.

Daunt Bookstore
This is one of the must-visit bookstores in London, according to most lists you'll pull out from googling 'top bookstores in London'. We just had to find out why.

It looked average from the entrance...

We had to wander further to find this section...

I love the book selection in most Daunt Books I've visited so far. After getting momentarily lost in rows and rows and shelves and shelves of books in this section, I understood why this particular Daunt Books consistently makes it to the list of top London bookstores.

I wish I could live there and read all those books. Ah bookstores, my piece of heaven on earth!

Well, my lovely, this Saturday agenda ends here for now. I'll see you next week!
