For Verna's XXth birthday, we decided to invite her friends over our flat and have our own steamboat / hotpot.
This is definitely much cheaper than the one that you'll have in restaurants. You'll need an induction cooker (for slow-cooking), a cook pot huge enough to dunk the ingredients in, a really good soup base and a good variety of ingredients (prawns, thinly sliced meat, tofu, mushrooms, wanton balls and dimsum, vegetables). We had more than enough to serve 4-5 people.
Thanks to Lily who is such a pro with hot pots, we all had a filling and lovely steamboat celebration.
